A 5,000-gallon diesel tanker truck that caught fire yesterday afternoon after the engine ignited has now been cleaned up and removed from a DeSoto intersection.

Local authorities explained that residents were able to return home after firefighters were able to diminish the fire.

“As of 9:45 PM Friday: While all hazards related to the DeSoto Diesel Tanker Truck Fire have been mitigated, and residents were allowed to return to their homes, it will be a bit longer before the intersection of Parkerville and Cockrell Hill Roads will be reopened,” said DeSoto Communication Manager Matt Smith.

“DeSoto Fire informed us that while the burned out tanker truck is safe and secure, the remaining diesel fuel in it, is still very hot and will be allowed to cool. That is what is preventing the intersection from being opened earlier.”

The cleanup of the intersection was completed at about 1:45 AM and the intersection of Parkerville and Cockrell Hill Roads was reopened to traffic according to DeSoto Police.

The traffic lights at the intersection are flashing red due to damage from the fire and should be treated as a four-way stop until city repairs are completed.

Friday afternoon, the city was notified of a smaller size tanker truck that had been engulfed in flames due to the engine catching fire.

From there the fire traveled and quickly engulfed the truck.

DeSoto Police said the driver made it out alive and was not hurt.

A tanker truck has caught fire in DeSoto at the intersection of S Cockrell Hill and W Parkerville Road.

Residents in the area were urged to evacuate after a 5,000-gallon tanker truck carrying diesel fuel caught fire this afternoon according to DeSoto Fire Chief Bryan Southard.

The City of DeSoto issued an evacuation notice for residents within the following area: from W Parkerville Rd to Summerside Dr to the north, Richard Pittman Dr to the south, Elerson Rd to the east, and Keswick Dr to the west.

DeSoto Police confirmed that the female truck driver was not injured in the fire.

She told fire officials that she noticed smoke coming out of the engine while sitting at a red light.

The fire moved from the engine to the tank.

“Due to the fuel that was on fire, we basically had to let it burn,” said Southard.

Fire trucks from Duncanville, Cedar Hill and Dallas fire departments were called in to help battle the blaze.

Emergency services are still on the scene working to help ensure public safety.

Nearby residents that have been evacuated will be allowed back in the area once the DeSoto Fire Department deems it is safe to return to their homes.

Residents had been advised to leave the area promptly and follow any instructions from emergency personnel.

Chief Southard expects that it will take the rest of the day to clean up.

One of the most anticipated is the third annual Juneteenth Fashion Show.

The event is set to take place from 7 PM on Saturday, June 15, at the Lexus Box Garden at Legacy Hall in Plano and is presented and produced by Think Three Media.

“I am thankful to Legacy West and Legacy Hall for partnering with us again,” said Leah Frazier, CEO of Think Three Media.

“This is an annual show that everyone looks forward to. I am honored to continually bring this level of Black Excellence to our community, inspiring the crowd to live more beautifully, boldly, and joyfully.”

This year’s event celebrates Black legends in fashion, the arts, entertainment, and culture, promising another sold-out show.

Featuring 12 North Texas designers and brands, the Juneteenth Fashion Show will be a vibrant and soulful celebration of creativity.

In addition to the fashion show, the event will honor contributions to Black haircare and beauty with a special showcase by the award-winning haircare wellness brand NU Standard.

Keya Neal, the 2024 national “Hair Educator of the Year” and founder of Texture Vs. Race, will make a special appearance.

Aspiring student designers from Cedar Hill High School will also participate, with one talented student being awarded the first-ever Juneteenth Fashion Show $500 scholarship.

The event will be co-hosted by Venny Etienne, Project Runway Season 17 contestant and award-winning fashion designer for Levenity, and media personality Lady Jade.

Attendees can look forward to an array of colorful designs and accessories from notable designers and brands, including:

The Dallas Mavericks traveled to Boston to take on the Celtics in game 1 of the NBA Finals but came up short losing 107-89.

The Celtics dominated in this first game as Jaylen Brown scored 22 points, and star guard Jayson Tatum finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Six players scored in double figures for the Celtics in the win over the Mavericks.

Former Maverick Kristaps Porzingis who had been sidelined since April 29 with an injury made his NBA Finals debut and made an immediate impact off the bench.

Porzingis scored 20 points, six rebounds, and three blocks in 21 minutes.

The Mavericks had a hard time moving the ball throughout the night, only creating nine assists to the Celtics 23.

Luka Doncic finished the game with 30 points and 10 rebounds, while Kyrie Irving scored just 12 points in the blowout loss.

At one point in the third quarter, Dallas did cut the lead to eight points, but Boston countered with a 14-0 run to quickly pull away again.

Back in Dallas fans cheered on the Mavericks at a game 1 watch party that saw thousands attend at the American Airlines Center.

Game 2 is in Boston on Sunday.
