As Texas gears up for the upcoming Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8, the city of DeSoto is also making preparations for its residents to view the occultation. Four Parks in the city have been designated as official viewing sites for people wishing to get a view of the total solar eclipse. These four parks will be open from 10 A.M. to 3 P.M., offering residents a safe and enjoyable eclipse-watching experience. DeSoto, March 25, 2024 -- On February 22, the DeSoto Area Chamber of Commerce officially welcomed We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym - Southwest Dallas to the city of DeSoto, TX.

Franchise Owner Christina Henderson says "This kid friendly indoors gym is committed to providing children the best." Through their Play With a Purpose philosophy, they focus on exercising and stimulating all seven senses for positive physical, emotional, and social development. It is her goal to provide the DeSoto Area with this facility to improve social skills among children.

TotalCare ER and DeSoto Area Chamber Launch Teachers’ Appreciation Initiative

TotalCare Emergency Rooms, in partnership with the DeSoto Area Chamber, has announced the Teachers’ Incentive Initiative with the DeSoto Independent School District. The initiative is aimed at bolstering support for educators within the district. The incentive offers 16 complimentary tickets from TotalCare to DeSoto ISD teachers to attend an upscale Mother’s Day Brunch on May 11. The brunch will be hosted at the DeSoto Civic Center by Luxuria- A Cedric Frazier Experience, a local business partnered with the DeSoto Area Chamber.

DeSoto High School Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Claude Mathis received Coach of the Year in a surprise ceremony that left the Coach speechless. Joyous moments could be seen as Mathis entered DeSoto High School’s Dyer Gym alongside DeSoto ISD Superintendent Dr. Usamah Rodgers. Mathis was unaware that he would be receiving the award in a ceremony and instead was led to believe that a pipe had burst in the gym.

Texas employers add nearly 50,000 jobs in robust February hiring

Texas employers added 49,800 jobs in February, marking the biggest one-month gain since last fall.

Job growth was driven by the state’s service-producing sector, with business services and private education and health services leading the way, according to data released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission. Those employers accounted for just over 20,000 of the jobs increase.

Folks throughout Texas remember the frigid days of power outages in some of the coldest weather the state has seen in a long time in February of 2021. As it has become known, the Texas Grid remains in question during extreme cold and heat, to the point that officials regularly ask citizens to make significant adjustments to their heating and cooling systems. Vesper Energy is helping with the situation. While it won’t be a complete fix for the entire state, it could make a big difference in DeSoto and likewise take a step in helping the grid problem.
