As the Fourth of July quickly approaches, The DeSoto Tribune would like to wish everyone in the city of DeSoto and the Best Southwest area a happy and safe Independence Day.

Families across the state are gearing up to celebrate Independence Day with festive celebrations and delicious food.

Barbecues, parades, fireworks, and family gatherings mark the day, commemorating the 248th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

In cities and towns from coast to coast, residents adorned in red, white, and blue will gather for a day filled with traditional and heartfelt celebrations.

In the spirit of unity and community, the cities of DeSoto and Lancaster are hosting a grand Fourth of July Fireworks Show at Grimes Park.

This free event, running from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., promises to be a highlight of the summer.

Gates will open at 5:00 p.m., allowing families to secure their spots early for an evening of patriotic celebration and entertainment.

The event will feature an impressive lineup of live performances, headlined by The Bar-Kays featuring Larry Dodson.

Additional acts include the Natural Change Band, Dominique Hammons, and the GoGo Band, ensuring a vibrant and energetic atmosphere throughout the evening.

Children’s activities, games for all ages, and a variety of food vendors will add to the festive environment, providing something for everyone to enjoy.

As the day transitions into night, the excitement will build for the main event: a spectacular fireworks display set to begin at dusk.

The DeSoto and Lancaster communities, along with visitors from surrounding areas, are invited to join in the celebration at Grimes Park.

This event is an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s history and the values of freedom, democracy, and unity while enjoying the company of neighbors, friends, and family.

Smokey John’s BBQ Announces Independence Day Specials

Smokey John’s BBQ, a beloved Dallas establishment known for its home-cooked southern favorites, is introducing a special offering for the Fourth of July holiday.

The restaurant, led by brothers Brent and Juan Reaves, has been serving hickory-smoked BBQ and local flavors with Texas hospitality for over 40 years.

To celebrate Independence Day, Smokey John’s BBQ is offering The Independence Day Pack, priced at $139.95 and designed to feed 6 to 8 people.

The pack includes a choice of one slab of ribs or two pounds of brisket, two whole chickens, two quarts of sides, a dozen rolls, one pint of BBQ sauce, and a gallon of tea or lemonade.

Orders for the pack must be placed by July 1st, with pick-up available on July 3rd. The restaurant will be closed on July 4th in observance of the holiday.

In addition to the holiday pack, Smokey John’s BBQ is offering a combo sale on its signature BBQ Sauce and BBQ Rub for $15.

These products are also available at Joe V’s and select HEB stores.

Customers can enjoy Smokey John’s smoky, summer specials and signature flavors as they prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July with family and friends.

The Reaves brothers have also signed an exclusive deal with the newly opened Joe V’s Smart Shop, a sister brand of HEB.

This agreement not only puts their BBQ Rub and coveted BBQ Sauce on Joe V’s shelves but also introduces their famous Banana Pudding to the grocery store aisles.

The pudding is a cherished family recipe from their grandmother and is now available at Joe V’s for $14.75.

Duncanville’s Independence Day Cook-Off Celebration

DUNCANVILLE, TX – The city of Duncanville is gearing up for a sizzling event this summer with the inaugural “Red, White, & BBQ” cook-off.

The celebration will kick off on Thursday, July 4, extending through Saturday, July 6, at Armstrong Park located at 100 James Collins Boulevard.

This year’s Independence Day Celebration promises to be a fun-filled event for the whole family, with activities and entertainment.

There will be live performances by Extended Play and Cruel Summer which will add to the festive atmosphere.

Gates open at 1:00 PM, and the fireworks display will begin at 9:30 PM.

Beginning Thursday, the event will kick off with a parade at 9:00 a.m., a celebration at 1:00 p.m., and conclude with festive Fireworks.

The event aims to bring BBQ enthusiasts from near and far to participate in a fun friendly cook-off.

With a guaranteed payout of $10,000, the competition is expected to attract a wide array of participants, eager to showcase their grilling skills.

The entry fee for the main cook-off is $250, covering four meat categories: chicken, ribs, pork, and brisket.

In addition to the main event, there will be a special Friday night steak jackpot, with an entry fee of $25, adding an extra layer of excitement for both participants and attendees.

Registration is currently open, and interested participants can sign up through a provided QR code or by visiting the Duncanville Recreation Center.

The event is organized by the City of Duncanville in partnership with the Champions Barbecue Alliance, ensuring a professionally run competition with industry-wide standards and judging criteria.

In addition to the cook-off, the event will feature live entertainment, food vendors, and activities for all ages, making it a family-friendly affair.

Spectators can look forward to a festive atmosphere with a patriotic theme, reflecting the event’s timing just after Independence Day.

Admission is free, but wristbands are required.

Wristbands will be available for pickup starting Wednesday, June 5, at the Duncanville Recreation Center.
