New Trash and Recycling Changes Coming to DeSoto

Starting June 1, Republic Services will deliver 95-gallon carts for trash and recycling to DeSoto residents.

The carts, set to be dropped off beginning mid-May, will become usable on June 1.

A town hall meeting to discuss changes to trash and recycling services from Republic Services will take place on Friday, May 17, at 6 p.m.

The city of DeSoto’s Facebook page will host the meeting via Zoom, allowing community members to participate.

Republic Services has released an online brochure outlining the new services available to residents.

While some services, such as trash collection days, will remain unchanged with pickups scheduled for Monday, Thursday, or Tuesday and Friday, recycling services will continue on Wednesdays.

Residents must place their carts out by 7 a.m. on each service day.

In addition, Republic Services will offer “door-side assistance” to residents with mobility challenges or visual impairments.

To qualify for this assistance, residents must apply at DeSoto City Hall, meet with representatives from the city and Republic Services.

Residents must also certify that there are no other physically capable residents in the home.

For further details about the new carts and change in service, residents are encouraged to consult the online brochure.
